My years of dedication to animal rescue combined with my love of biking inspired a New Year’s Resolution I made in 2007 to pedal my bike for donations for dogs, cats and wildlife. My commitment has been to raise one dollar for every mile contributed with a goal of raising at least $1,000 per year.
To date I have ridden more than 10,000 miles and raised more than $40,000. Along the way some supporters have joined the cause and contribute miles by biking, stationary cycling and walking. In 2023 a Golden Retriever named Ridley Abrams joined our team and averages about 20 miles per week! |
All of the money raised is donated to our rescues, local rescue groups, independent rescuers and cat trappers. We focus primarily on “throwaways” and animals in need of emergency medical care, injured, abused, neglected and orphaned animals. No donations are used for any expenses, and I personally pay for all administrative costs.
I rescue independently, foster, adopt, donate, volunteer, and collect and distribute pet food to the needy and feral colony feeders. Several rescuers have asked me to foster animals in need of special medical care including a cat who was found on the street, barely alive, spent 30 days in intensive care and then had brain surgery to remove a tumor attached to his inner ear drum. I fostered Jupiter immediately after surgery and then later adopted him.
Rescue friends in north Georgia, foster Carol Aiken and Joni Rhodes Godbee, saved a Cocker Spaniel throwaway who needed to have her eye removed. I fostered and then adopted her renaming her “Dazzle” in honor of Carol who sent her with a gorgeous rhinestone sweater she said so that she would look dazzling upon arrival. Later Dazzle had to have her other eye removed, but she never let her blindness prevent her from running, hunting lizards and enjoying life.
Max, a cat who was a victim of a massive house fire, was transferred from a local ER to the University of Florid Veterinary Hospital for his burns and stabilization. After his release from UF, I fostered him for special medical care and handling. Against all odds, Max survived his burns. |
